Rina Suryani Oktari is an Associate Professor and Vice Dean of Student, Alumni, and Partnership Affairs at the Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Syiah Kuala (USK). She currently leads the International Collaboration on Research, Innovation, and Community Engagement at the World Class University (WCU) Program, USK. She holds several important roles in the field of disaster management, including: 1) Coordinator for the Disaster Education and Management Research Cluster at Tsunami and Disaster Mitigation Research Center (TDMRC) (2014-present); 2) Associate Editor of the International Journal of Disaster Risk Reduction (IJDRR), Elsevier (2023-present); 3) Editor of the International Journal of Disaster Management (IJDM) (2020-present); 4) Chairperson of the Sociocultural Working Group of the Indonesian Association of Disaster Experts (IABI) (2024-present); 5) Head of the Graduate Program in Disaster Science – at USK (2022-2024); 6) Secretary of the Indonesian Disaster Management Society (MPBI) (2021-2024); 7) Country Focal Point (CFP) of the Inter-agency Network for Education in Emergencies (INEE)(2022-2024); 8) Head of Family Medicine Department, Faculty of Medicine, USK (2015-2019).
Dr. Oktari earned her Doctoral Degree in Disaster Science from the Graduate School of Mathematics and Applied Science, Universitas Syiah Kuala, and was an alumnus of the Pan Asia Risk Reduction (PARR) Fellowship Program at the International Environment and Disaster Management (IEDM) Laboratory, Kyoto University. In 2019, she was recognized as the Young Scientist of the Integrated Research on Disaster Risk (IRDR) worldwide.
